The Firefighter Cancer Screening Difference

Firefighter-Owned. Firefighter-Focused.

At Firefighter Cancer Screening U.S.A., we know the risks because we’ve lived them. As a firefighter-owned and operated company, our mission is deeply personal: to protect the health and future of those who dedicate their lives to protecting others

Why We Exist

Firefighters face a higher risk of developing cancer due to the toxins and carcinogens encountered in the line of duty. We created Firefighter Cancer Screening U.S.A. to bridge the gap between occupational risk and proactive health solutions. By bringing advanced tools like the Galleri® multi-cancer early detection test directly to firehouses and departments, we empower crews to take control of their health with convenience, privacy, and trust.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Galleri test and how does it work?

The Galleri test is a simple blood draw designed to screen for a cancer “signal” across over 50 types of cancer, including many that currently lack routine screening options. It detects DNA fragments (cell-free DNA) from potential cancer cells and analyzes their methylation patterns using advanced machine learning to identify possible cancer and its likely origin.

2. Why is multi-cancer early detection important for firefighters?

Firefighters are at an elevated risk for many types of cancer due to chronic exposure to carcinogens on the job. The Galleri test offers a proactive tool to detect potential cancer signals from over 50 types of cancer—many of which don’t have standard screening methods. Early detection supports better outcomes, faster intervention, and reduced downtime, helping protect both health and careers.

3. What do my test results mean?

"No Cancer Signal Detected": No cancer-related DNA was found in the blood. While this result applies to nearly 99% of tested individuals, it does not guarantee absence of cancer. Routine cancer screenings should continue.

"Cancer Signal Detected": A signal was found and the test may indicate the likely tissue or organ involved. This is not a diagnosis—further follow-up, such as imaging or lab tests, is required to confirm whether cancer is present.

4. How accurate is the test?

The Galleri test boasts a specificity of approximately 99.5%, meaning false positives are very uncommon.

The positive predictive value (PPV)—the likelihood a detected signal corresponds to an actual cancer—is about 73% based on recent Mayo Clinic studies, meaning not all positive results indicate cancer.

Sensitivity (the ability to detect cancer) increases with cancer stage—low in early stages and substantially higher in later stages. For some cancers like liver or bile duct cancer, sensitivity is over 90%; for many early-stage cancers, sensitivity is lower.

5. How can fire departments access the Galleri test for their personnel, and what are the costs?

Fire departments can integrate the Galleri multi-cancer early detection test into their annual health and wellness screenings by partnering with Firefighter Cancer Screening U.S.A. The test is available by prescription and involves a simple blood draw that can be coordinated on-site or at a designated clinic.

Pricing for departments is available through group health agreements, with volume-based discounts and corporate wellness packages. While the standard retail cost is $949 per individual, organizations may be eligible for reduced rates, flexible billing, and the option to apply HSA/FSA funds or seek reimbursement through employer-sponsored benefits.

Our team helps streamline onboarding, testing logistics, and provider coordination to ensure compliance, privacy, and clinical follow-up for all participants.
